Sow to Reap

Sola Jones encourages us to put a tried and tested biblical principle into practice and enjoy the benefits…

What impact do you envision your business making in the world today? What great vision do you have to succeed in business? Whose life do you want to touch as a result of your endeavours? What great dreams do you want to accomplish? Perhaps like me ,you think of big corporations making a significant impact through their giving and you want to be like them.

Perhaps, you have read of Christians in the 18th and 19th century who had a profound effect on society and whose work endures to this day? We want to meet the needs of those around us but it seems an impossible task. We might think of the smallness of our business or our lack of education and eloquence. We might think, if it’s God’s will ,then one day I will do this and leave it at that.

Of course , there are many factors that need to be considered before we can make a great impact and experience a Godly economic take-over . For example, we may need a period of training and preparations but we also need to adhere to the fundamental biblical principle of sowing and reaping. This is one of those spiritual laws that means that everyone is equal before God and is able to achieve . God is no respecter of persons and it’s one way to guarantee that you will reap a great harvest in the future.

Pre-conceived ideas

When I first came across this principle a few years ago , in my pious mindset , I thought it was inappropriate to expect God to give me a harvest . After all, He deserves everything for giving me such a great salvation . I reasoned that It must be an import from America . to give faithfully was enough pleasure for me . I was not expecting anything in return . I was not even sure it was scriptural to expect something in return, though today I marvel at such an idea; expecting things from god is one of the reasons we pray!

Anyway , I continued to give and was certainly not expecting any financial reward  until I understood that if something is in the word of God , then it must be right. Why else would God  say we should give and it would be given unto us in immeasurable quantities (Lk 6:38) if we were not to expect anything in return ? Why would the word of God say we should sow knowing full well that sowing leads to reaping?

Sowing and reaping

Sowing and reaping is God’s method of giving anything on earth. It is one of the natural laws of God. “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer and day and night shall not cease”. (Gen 8:22). A seed is anything you plant that can produce a harvest. Though often used in terms of money, it can represent almost anything: time, ability, talent, material possession, friendship. Unless it is planted, however, a seed will not produce a harvest.

The reason this principle is important for us as business people is given in 2Cor 9:8 “And  God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance of every good work. “

In other words , we will have sufficient to meet our needs so that we don’t lack anything. Not only will we be able to meet all our needs, we will have abundance for every good work.

This principle is so important if we want God  to use us to bring in the end time harvest. We need to have enough for every good work, whether supporting orphaned  and street children  somewhere in the world, helping to fight AIDS, sending missionaries or even helping other brethren setting up in business so that they can help others . Whatever the good work, our abundance from God will make this happen and the world will take notice.

Additionally, when we sow, other people are blessed by our giving and this brings glory to God. “For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints but also is abounding through many thanksgiving to God. “ 2Cor 9:12. Our business can cause others to praise God.

How to sow?

Any form of giving is spiritual act of praise and worship. While I recognized that I couldn’t buy God’s favour with money, I now realized that my heart condition also needs to be right. I give to Him out of a grateful and willing heart and even if He does not give me anything , I will still serve Him. But He has promised to give me in return. In much the same way that He gave His only son and I received His salvation, I want to receive the blessings from His hands so I can make an impact.

We sow according to the instructions of the Holy Spirit. Just as a farmer would ensure that the ground he is sowing is well prepared and fertilized, so it must be in the kingdom. We need to have a sensitive heart to sow where He indicates. All the resources we have belong to Him anyway and we are only stewards of them. The key is to receive the instructions and be quick to obey them.

Sowing is also a lifestyle. It’s not something you do once and then stop. We read that “He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows abundantly will also reap abundantly.”(2 Cor 9:6). If you expect to make a big impact with your business, start sowing bountifully today. Everybody has something in their hand that they can sow, for God gives seed to the sower. If you feel you have nothing to give, ask for seed. To enjoy continual harvest in our businesses, we need to sow continually.

Satisfaction guaranteed

God never forgets a seed . I have heard it said that “your seed never leaves your life; it only leaves your hand.”Additionally , in 2 Cor 9:10, we read “Now may he who supplies seed to the sower , and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness. “ The Lord will, not just add, to the seed you have sown. Your seed will come up as a memorial before Him. In the process of waiting for the harvest, let us hold on to the confession of our faith and not waver in unbelief for a double –minded person will not receive anything from the Lord. Jas 1:6-8. Let’s partner with God by becoming a seed giver today.

Finally, “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season, we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”( Gal 6:9 ). The bible promises that we will reap a harvest.

Still waiting to fulfill vision that you have always wanted? We need money to impact the world for Christ . Do you want to be writing cheques for millions for God’s kingdom? Then start sowing today. The financial increase that God wants to give our businesses is so great . Much more than we can think or imagine but we need to start sowing today. God is looking for channels , let us be those channels.
